Argentine company, founded by brothers Georg and Lazlo Biro. Lazlo Biro, a Hungarian journalist, had patented in 1938 a ballpoint pen, but without resulting in a production. He fled to Argentina in 1940 to escape the Nazis. He teamed up with his brother and in 1943 gave life to Eterpen, the first company to produce and market ballpoint pens in an industrial way, using the Biro brand that from then on, at least in Italy, became practically synonymous with ballpoint pen.
