Come per le fotografie di penne ed i documenti generici anche per le scansioni di pubblicità si è usata una convenzione specifica per i nomi da assegnare ai file, mettendo come inizio del nome l'anno di pubblicazione in modo che queste risultino ordinate cronologicamente. Pertanto una scansione pubblicitaria dovrebbe essere sempre inserita con un nome di file nella forma:

dove il mese può essere omesso se non lo si conosce, e l'anno può essere indicato in maniera approssimata (ad esempio nella forma 192x) quando non è noto con precisione. Il modello può essere omesso se la pubblicità è generica, se invece ne compaiono più di uno si usi il nome di quello più importante. Le parole devono essere separate da trattini e la breve descrizione deve essere usata per distinguere pubblicità dello stesso periodo e mantenersi entro le 2 parole, un esempio è <tt>1908-Waterman-GiftSanta.jpg</tt>.
