The [[LUS]] was founded in [[1929]]<ref>as reported on the website of the Saronnese Museum of Industry and Labor.</ref> in Saronno by Umberto Legnani, an experienced mechanical worker, with his wife Giuseppina Carnelli when. fired because of the effects of the recession, he decided to start his own business producing nibs and other stationery. The ''LUS'' brand (abbreviation of ''Legnani Umberto, Saronno'') was recorded in [[1931]]. The activity started from the production of steel nibs, but around [[1934]], at a change of venue, it began production of fountain pens, although the main activity remained the production of nibs and office supplies.

La LUS venne fondata nel 1929[1] a Saronno da Umberto Legnani, un esperto operaio meccanico, con la moglie Giuseppina Carnelli, quando licenziato a causa degli effetti della recessione decise di mettersi in proprio a produrre pennini e altro materiale di cancelleria. Il marchio LUS (sigla di Legnani Umberto, Saronno) venne registrato nel 1931.[2] L'attività partì dalla produzione di pennini in acciaio, ma nel 1934 circa, in corrispondenza di un cambio di sede, iniziò una produzione di stilografiche, anche se l'attività principale restava la produzione di pennini e materiale da cancelleria.
